August Week 3 Scorecard

Struck out on both counts. They rejected both "Small Island" and "On Target", leaving me with a summer score of 9/16. Last summer I got in 26/40. Huge drop in the number of submissions, but I could point out that the bulk of this summer's songs were much longer. I'm still going to end the summer with half the submissions of the year before. They'll sell for a lot more money, but only time will tell if it's the right approach.

August Week 2 Scorecard

Short and sweet. Only one submission last week due to a trip to Pgh. "Simple Children's Theme" was rejected, and the scorecard now stands at 9/14.

End of July Scorecard

Last weeks submissions have all cleared the queue, and I got 2 out of 3 accepted. The current scorecard is 9/13. For the record, AudioJungle accepted "Medieval Nocturne" and "How It's Done," but rejected "Mallet Folk Loop."

Last Week's Scorecard

Songs that made the cut were "There is a Fountain" and "Comic Tedium." "Spaghetti Western" and "Hybrid Funk" were both cut. The summer scorecard now stands at 7/10.

The frustrating thing is that I worked on "Hybrid Funk" for hours, but tossed together "Comic Tedium" in about 30 minutes. Just goes to show that you never know what they are going to think is "marketable." I worked for hours on the Middle Eastern song, too. I guess that only time will tell which ones people think are worth buying. Who knows what next year's top 3 will be.

Second Submissions Scorecard

Last week I submitted "Middle East," "Folk Tune," and "Happy Uke Tune." The good news is that all 3 were accepted, bringing the summer total up to 5/6.

I have two in the cue for the current week now, and probably about a dozen in different stages of development. Guess I better post some updates.

First Submissions Scorecard

My first submissions where "In Motion" (I listed it here as EDM Jam and submitted it anyway), "Sarasponda", and "Short Theme". They took "In Motion" and "Sarasponda", but rejected "Short Theme". The summer is off to a very slow start, and the score is 2/3.

Week 2 was also slow. I spent it driving to Pgh. and Buffalo to check out pianos. We didn't fall in love with one, so I just spent three days under the hood of the one I have replacing all of the dampers. While I'm waiting for more parts to arrive in the mail, I'll see how much catching up I can do. I would like to get the online portfolio up to 200 recording by the end of the summer - right now I have 180. With summer almost half over, I better get moving.

Week 9 Scorecard

My submissions have made it through the queue this week, and I got 4/5 accepted. Pizzi Intro, Simple Winds Loops 1, 2, & 3 all made it in, the Blue Jazz Loop didn't. The summer total is now 26/40. A much better showing than last week.

Week 8 Scorecard - Painful post

I've never had to make a post like this. I only managed to submit three songs last week because I was busy with other projects, and all three were rejected. Ouch.

So I am not a single item closer to my goal of 175 by the end of summer. That brings my summer total up to an abysmal 22/35.

With this many rejects racking up, it may be time to create a "reject page". Honest truth? Some of them deserved it. Not all of them deserved it. I'm actually pretty happy with some of the stuff they are rejecting. It may be time to shop around for other alternatives for some of the tracks Audio Jungle turned up it's nose at. If I can find an alternative sales platform, and those tracks start selling on that platform, I'll feel a little better about myself, and will face Australia and blow a raspberry at whatever overly-picky reviewers are canning some of those tracks. Research time.

I'm still going to make that goal. Just you watch.

Week 7 Scorecard

Got 3/5 approved this week, bringing the summer total up to 22/32.

The ones making it in were the Jazz Combo Loop, the Light Broadcast Intro, and the Rough Edge Loop - that's right, the one I was pretty sure wasn't going to make the cut because it didn't seem very "commercial". The ones that made the cut were the two that I actually thought were the most promising of the lot, the Happy Pop loop and my Mellow Jazz song. The mellow jazz one kind of hurt. I liked that one. I guess the reviewer didn't.

No matter, I'm working on a fresh batch for week #7, and I'm on track to have 175 by September. I already have 170 in, so let's hope I can keep getting 3/5 approved a week.

Week 6 Scorecard

All 5 of last weeks submissions have worked their way thru the queue over the weekend, and it was a mixed bag. 3/5 made the cut - not a stellar week, but I'll take it.

The Pizzicato String Loop, Oriental Journey, and Ukulele and Marimba Theme made the cut, The Metro Strut and Free Range Organ didn't. That brings the summer total up to 19/27. I'm not setting the world on fire here, but still on track to get to 175 items for sale by the end of the summer. If it takes 5 submissions to get 3 in, I need about 13 submissions to get there. With a little extra effort, maybe I can get there by mid-August.
Comments

Week 5 Scorecard

Results are in from week #5 submissions. I got 3/5 this time around. The "Accordion Duet," "Whistle & Ukulele Loop," and "Harp Boys & Chime" all made it in. "Clav Dance" and "Spy Vibe" were both politely rejected with a form letter. Se La Vi.

My running count for the summer is now 16/22. The more times you're at bat, the more often you're likely to get a hit.
Comments

Week 4 Scorecard

A much better showing this time around - I actually got in my quota of 5. Four out of the five got accepted (Pizzicato Theme, Dance Mod, Walking Jazz Combo, and Swamp Loop). The one that didn't make the cut was my "Dit Doo Dah loop", so my first attempt at vocal audio flopped. I get knocked down, but I get up again.

That brings the summer scorecard up to 13/17 for the summer at the end of week 4. I now have 162 songs up for sale on Audio Jungle. I'm thinking that 175 would be a good target for the summer. We'll see.
Comments

Week 3 Scorecard

Results are in from last week's submissions, and I went 3/3. That brings me up to 9/12 for the summer so far.

I have already submitted three for this week. I've got enough in process that I should be able to get my quota of 5 this time around. I hope.
Comments

Week 2 Scorecard

My final submissions have worked there way through Audio Jungle's review process. I got 3/5 for week 2 submissions, bringing the total up to 6/9. "Warm Fuzzies," "Harp and Pads Ident," and "Island Bounce Loop" all made the cut. "Free Electron" and the "Tremolo Strings & Piano Ident." weren't accepted. You win some, you lose some.
Comments

Week One Score Card

The results are in from last week's submissions. "Wobble Bass," "Victor's Circle," and "Jazz Cat," have all been accepted. "Tech Ident" was rejected. I like to try submit 5 a week, but was one short for the first week. Slow start.

That makes the first summer score card 3/4. I'm tempted to add my early bird submissions to improve my percentage and make my quota, but it would feel dishonest. I couldn't do that to the faithful thousands who read my blog every day. (OK. Maybe I would just be lying to myself. What's the point?)

I have three more working their way through the queue this week. Two to go to recapture my self-respect.

"Wobble Bass" is in

For convenience sake, I'm calling the "Wobble Bass Talkover" my first official submission of the summer. I'll just call the two before that 'warm up freebies'.

Why? Because that way I start the summer submission season with 150 items for sale on Audio Jungle, which is easier to keep track of than 148. Pathetic, I know. It's just the way my mind works.

In any case, "Wobble Bass" was accepted by AJ, and is already up for sale on the site. Jazz Cat is #2, and #3 has already been submitted, and will be my next post. So that makes me 1/1 for the summer so far. Well, it's a start.
